  According to her grandson Henry Silk, Jr, Nettie first emigrated from Latvia to England, where she went to a girls' school in London, and later came to the US and settled in San Francisco. She was married to Mark Leites, a Russian sailor. When she died in 1944, her age was listed as 78. On her cryptstone, her maiden name is spelled "Gordan."
