  According to Lena's nephew, Bernardo (in Brazil), Herman and Lena Seibel were "German" (or very close) cousins. We still do not know for sure how they were related; that is, who their common ancestor was. We believe that Yitzhak Yosef, Herman's father, was actually Yecheskal Seibel's son. As of now, we have no documentation to prove it. However, if Yecheskal was actually the father, then Herman and Lena would have been first cousins once removed. If instead Yitzhak Yosef's father was a brother of Yecheskal, then they would have been second cousins once removed, not "very close."
