151 Ida had significant spinal curvature, as noted on her ship record and family information. SEIBEL, Ida Shaindel (I1329)

152 In 1925, 14-year-old Bernardo Seibel arrived in Brazil, coming from Krakow, Poland, with his father, Salomon. In a typical immigrant struggle to make a living in a new country, and after several jobs, he started to work in the furniture retail business in 1935. In 1946, he became a partner in a small furniture factory at Birigüi, in the hinterland of the State of São Paulo, which flourished well in the following years. In 1961, living again in São Paulo, he acquired LEO Madeiras, a small wood distribution business located in the Gasômetro area, in the district of Brás. In 1985, the Madelânda Group was created (later renamed "The Ligna Group") through the acquisition of Brasimet's share control, a major Brazilian player in the metallurgical industry. From 1990-1992, the Ligna Group intensified its operations in the furniture industry and became a large manufacturer of decorative laminates by acquiring Formica Corporation in Brazil and in Argentins, Lammet in Holland, and finally the Formiplac Group in Brazil, which was Satipel's owner at the time. In 1996 (the year Bernardo died), the Ligna Group started to operate in the home center retail business in a joint venture with the French Group Leroy Merlin. Today his sons, Salo and Helio Seibel, continue to run the Ligna Group. [source: Ligna Group brochure; see the Ligna Group's history on the Satipel websiteSEIBEL, Bernardo (I1780)

153 In January 1920 Census he listed his age as 87, suggesting that he was born in 1832-33. However he was not yet born when the 1834 List of Male Jews Entitled to Reside in Hasenpoth was recorded. His brother Isser, age 2 at that time, was the youngest one listed. And there was a brother David born between them. So Lazar could not have been born before 1835.

170 Listed as belonging to the third merchants guild in Hasenpoth from 1844. (On Laser's death certificate and tombstone, his father's name is listed as Benjamin.) PERELMANN, Shaye (I745)

171 Listed his birthdate as October 1866 on naturalization papers in 1902. Yet, on marriage certificate in 1904, his age is listed (erroneously?) as 31 (instead of 38), consistent with a birthdate in 1873. And in the January 1920 census his age is listed as 48 (again consistent with 1873 birthdate). His age on tombstone is listed as 65 in December 1932. However, on his death certificate, his age was listed erroneously as 59, with a birthdate of December 15, 1873.

Morris (aka Murray) had a huge appetite. His son, Howard, boasted that his dad's stomach is in the Smithsonian, due to its IRON foundation.
Morris was an ambidextrous baseball player (threw lefty/righty) and switch hitter extraordinaire. He played with Hank Greenberg at James Monroe HS in the Bronx.

191 On his ship record, he gave his age as 17 in July 1920 (with DOB abt 1903). However, the record for his Detroit border crossing in July 1931 states his age at that time as 29 years 7 months. Also, his surname was listed both as Mintz and as Seibel (his mother's maiden name), suggesting that he had a birth record/certificate from Grebow, Poland (Austria at the time), where Jewish marriages were not recognized by the civil authorities and Jewish children had to take their mother's maiden name for civil legal purposes. He most likely made himself younger for the ship passage to purchase a cheaper ticket if under age 18. MINTZ, Izak Jozef (Joe) (I3089)
